Successful 5th Chilean Graduate Conference in Australia!

The 5th Chilean Graduate Conference in Australia (5CGC) was a complete success!

Around 90 attendants during the 2 days of the conference enjoyed plenary lectures given by Alejandra Mizala, Director of the Centre for Advanced Research in Education (CIAE) and Professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering at University of Chile; Rodrigo Palma, Director of the Solar Energy Research Centre (SERC-Chile) and Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering at University of Chile; and Peter Saunders, Research Chair in Social Policy at Social Policy Research Centre (SPRC) at UNSW Sydney, in which they shared their vision and experiences on sustainable development in their respective fields. Additionally, almost 40 Chilean postgraduate students and researchers in Australia presented their work in a broad way to show the impact and contributions of their research towards Chile’s sustainable development.

This event represented a huge effort of the Chilean Graduate Associations in Australia to expand, develop and enhance academic and industry linkages between Chile and Australia. The main topic was ‘Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development in Chile’, and it aimed to bring together Chilean professionals, postgraduate students, researchers, authorities, and leaders in science & technology from Chile and Australia to discuss and develop strategies for Chile to become a sustainable country. This theme was framed on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations in 2015 to promote prosperity, improve social welfare and protect the environment, and we consider the 5CGC was great opportunity to raise awareness of the SDGs as well as to be an opportunity to promote the finding of solutions to achieve sustainable development.

As host organisation, we would like to thank the members of the different committees, all of whom have worked tirelessly for more than 9 months to coordinate the conference program, speakers, presentations and all the activities you will enjoy during the event.

We also want to thank to our sponsors and partners Chile Global (Fundación Imagen de Chile), UNSW Sydney, University of Melbourne, ARC (UNSW), Bluefield, GSA (University of Melbourne), CHISA@UNSW, UQ Chile, CREGA Melbourne, #Knowyourgoals initiative, Embajada de Chile en Australia and Pro-Chile, because without their support it would have been impossible to put this conference together.

We hope you have had a great time and have met a lot of new people!
